Midsommar Flower Crown Party

Midsommar Flower Crown Party

In most parts of Scandinavia (and throughout Europe), Midsommar is celebrated during or near the summer solstice and is a beautiful reason for family and friends to get together to celebrate the longest days of the year. In the Southern Hemisphere, Midsommar is not something that is traditionally celebrated, but we love to bring the joy of this celebration to our side of the world. Read on for all the tips, tricks and ideas to throw your own Midsommar Flower Crown making party!

Tools

  • Thin floral wire
  • Wire cutters
  • Secateurs
  • Flower snips
  • Floral tape
  • Thicker wire for the base of the crown
  • Ribbon

Flowers & Foliage

This is the fun part! You really can use anything and everything, but here is a list of what we used. Make sure to use as much as you can from your own garden and from foraging.

Flowers

  • Lisianthus
  • Chrysanthemums
  • Cosmos
  • Zinnia
  • Calendula
  • Cornflower
  • Flox
  • Gypsophelia
  • Daisy
  • Feverfew

Foliage

  • Olive leaf
  • Bouganvillea leaf
  • Ruscus
  • Bay leaf

Other flowers we recommend are roses (standard or spray) small dahlias, ranunculus, snapdragons and many more!

Flower Crown How To Guide

  • Always pre cut as much as you can so pre cut your head sized wires and bend the ends into a hook for your ribbon. Cover the whole wire in florist tape - floral tape sticks to itself so this helps your flowers stick as they will be wrapped too
  • Use floral tape to wrap the wired stems of your flowers and then wrap them to your crown wire - your floral tape should be warmed by your body heat to help it stick. Adding wire to the stems of your flowers and foliage helps to make them stronger and give a 'false stem' that can be bent and manipulated, so we recommend adding wire to your stems before wrapping in floral tape.
  • Keep adding foliage and flowers until your crown is full - we like to start with a base of foliage and then add flowers on top to give a full look. Use a mixture of wire and tape to attach your flowers and foliage.
  • Add your ribbon last to your wire hooks and your crown is complete!

Midsommar Tablescape

  • We used our Pure White Ruffle Tablecloth and Table Runner as our perfect base
  • We added a mixture of our gingham and blue floral napkins
  • We did custom strawberry name place cards
  • Edible flower ice - this is SO easy to do and such a showstopper!
  • The napkins were wrapped in a lace bow
  • Pink and orange candles in glass candleholders added more texture and colour
  • The flowers were kept in their own types to help make it easy for guests to pick what they want to use - this also makes set up easy as you don't have to make actual floral arrangements!
  • We put all tools in jars that matched that of what the flowers were in to keep it cohesive

Food

  • Strawberry window cookies were an absolute favourite on the day!
  • Victoria sponge with plant based cream and strawberries
  • Cucumber sandwiches
  • Coronation plant based chicken sandwiches

Finale Notes & Tips

  • As always, making most of the food ahead of time made the day much easier
  • Tools like wire, ribbon etc all being pre cut and ready to use before the day made set up a breeze
  • Forage what you can - a beautiful base of foliage is key for making the flower crown feel full
  • Do your flower ice a few days before as this is such an easy prep
  • Enjoy the special day with your gal pals - be creative and have fun!
